If this chap was an ex TA and paid all that for Island Escape must be a brick short of a load.

I was thinking that myself...she is a bit of a bucket afterall, in truth she has been for years really, and most TA's realise that.

Thomsons may well be forced into sorting out Island Escape...and not keep denying that a problem exists with the ship...SOMETHING is wrong with her & has been for a long time, probably right from day one when she was first used at Island Cruises and that problem has perpetuated over time and is continuing under Thomson's management...

http://www.thisisleicestershire.co.u...l/article.html

Being an older ship does not automatically mean there will be more problems...afterall brand new ships get into difficulties with bugs or mechanical issues too. The ship is past its sell by date, she was built as a ferry in 1982 and introduced to cruising by Sundance Cruises in 1985, she has had quite a few owners in a relatively short timespan which could be construed as a red flag that something wasn't quite right with her...

Built 1982 - DFDS
Sold 1985 - Sundancer Cruises
Sold 1989 - Royal Caribbean
Sold 2002 - First Choice/Royal Caribbean jv (Island Cruises)
Sold 2008/9 - Thomsons

According to this press release, at least 70 have sought legal advice against Thomson's over illness aboard Island Escape...

Ally

I have written a letter to the CO about this including referring to the Island Escape as a liner. I have told them of about this before.

Same story below I think?

This problem is just not going to go away, time perhaps for Thomsons to withdraw the ship and get her sorted out properly...

If Thompson took the ship out of service, and did nothing for a few days, the virus would die anyway unless present in a crew member. And it is the latter that I find incredible. All you hear is passengers bringing it aboard, never crew or within the food itself.

And yet again, a total misunderstanding of ships come into play. The Telegraph report mentions one restaurant not having hot water to clean dishes of for guests to wash their hands. I have never known ships restaurants to wash dishes within the restaurants or passengers wash their hands in the restaurant. Dishes are washed in the galley. And even if there was a problem with hot water supply soap with cold water will kill the virus. It is the soap not the water that destroys the virus. If heat is needed to kill a bug it would need to be hotter than hot water. There is so much misleading information on this bug passengers blaming the ship, shipping companies blaming passengers. It makes me quite angry to be honest because as I have said so many times it was just as rife during my day and I left the sea 35 years ago, but we just got on with it finding the source without fuss. The media rarely got to know about it. Now, you would think the bubonic plague had struck.

Law firms must be wringing their hands with glee, yet cases shore side dwarf those aboard cruise ships.

We have become suing culture I am afraid. We run the risk of picking up something or other every time we leave home. In fact we do not even have to leave home if we bring food home that has been prepared by a carrier. The bottom line is that we do not live in a sterile world whether at home or at sea. All people can do is maintain good hygiene practice, and try to ensure others do the same as best they can. Beyond that, there is little one can do if already within the food we eat. I understand how annoying it is to go down with a dose of the trots when on holiday. But to expect every single cruise or indeed shore side holiday to go without a hitch from health issues to weather is impossible. Yet people seem to think nothing will go wrong, and if it does, somebody is to blame. What planet are these people living on
